Shanghai Forum of Evidence: E-discovery and E-disclosure

Grant Thornton held the third annual forensic seminar, titled "Forum of Evidence: E-discovery and E-disclosure" in Shanghai on 17 October 2007. Following the previous two successful forensic seminars held in Beijing in 2005 and 2006, it was decided to change the venue to Shanghai this year.

This year, Grant Thornton managed to seek financial sponsorships from DeHeng Law Offices (德恆律師事務所), Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP (凱威萊德律師事務所), and Grant Thornton International.

The Forum was held at Hotel Grand Hyatt Shanghai and Grant Thornton's Shanghai office provided full logistical support. The Forum was co-sponsored by the Renmin University of China - School of Law (中國人民大學法學院) and the China Computer Forensics Research Team (中國計算機取證技術研究組).

The Forum focused on various rules and regulations on e-discovery, e-disclosure, privacy and data protection in the United States and Europe; practical approaches for electronic document and data retention; how these rules and regulations might affect PRC companies which do businesses with overseas companies (in the US in particular); and demonstrations of the latest computer forensic technologies.

The seminar was well attended with over 130 guests including government officials, solicitors, bankers, accountants, senior management staff from PRC enterprises, business owners and other professionals.

The speakers included Sterl Greenhalgh, forensic partner at Grant Thornton UK LLP, and Carole Longendyke, Director of Grant Thornton LLP US, as well as partners from DeHeng Law Offices and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP.

Peter Wong jointly chaired the Forum with Shen Hongshan, Partner, DeHeng Law Offices. Alan Tang gave the opening and closing speeches. The Forum was well received and the audience raised many interesting points during the Question and Answer session with the Panel.
