Forensic Accounting and Restructuring Seminar in Beijing 2006

As a result of the first successful forensic seminar held in Beijing in 2005, the second seminar on "Forensic Accounting and Restructuring" organised by Beijing Investment Promotion Bureau (北京市投資促進局) was held at The People's Great Hall in Beijing on 20 October 2006. The seminar was co-organised by Grant Thornton and Beijing Tianzhong Law Firm (北京市天中律師事務所). The five supporting units of the seminar were: Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (U.S.A.) (ACFE), Beijing International Investment Promotion Council (北京國際投資促進會), Beijing Foreign Investment Enterprises Association (北京外商投資企業協會) and Beijing Institute of CPAs (北京註冊會計師協會) and Beijing Municipal Lawyers Association (北京市律師協會). The seminar covered a number of topics including investigation and prevention of suspicious financial transactions and fraud schemes, asset misappropriation & tracing, investigation of fictitious financial transactions, commercial fraud and restructuring, protection and investigation of company's assets, practical forensic accounting issues, practical issues in foreign investment corporate bankruptcy and forensic IT. About one hundred and fifty people attended the seminar and Peter Wong, Partner of Forensic & Investigation Services of Hong Kong office chaired the seminar on that day. Robert Kerr and James Earp, partners of Grant Thornton UK and Bill Olsen, Principal of Grant Thornton US, shared their experiences and comments with the attendees on various forensic accounting issues. Rio Lam of Hong Kong office spoke on forensic IT issues. The leaders of relevant local bureaus in Beijing and some financial, legal, business management and venture capital professionals had fruitful discussions with the speakers on various issues. |
