Grant Thornton and F5 Networks jointly hosted a Web Application Security Seminar on 9 December 2005 at the Conrad Hotel. F5 Networks is a Seattle based company and is a leading provider of IT application traffic management products that help ensure the secure and optimised delivery of business-critical applications. The objective of the seminar was to raise awareness of the vulnerabilities of web applications and the threats that businesses are facing today; and present potential solutions in terms of practices, processes and information technology. The key speakers at the seminar were Patrick Rozario, Principal of Grant Thornton and Linda Hui, Managing Director of F5 Networks Hong Kong. Patrick's presentation introduced the common vulnerabilities related to web applications and the various policies and procedures that can be taken to help to prevent and mitigate such threats, such as implementing secure design and coding practices, and performing periodical security assessments. F5 Networks introduced TrafficShield, a Web Application Firewall, and presented a hacking demonstration. The turnout at the seminar was very good - there were over 100 participants from different sectors including financial institutions and government agencies. There was a lot of positive feedback and enquiries. Grant Thornton's IT Risk Assurance and Advisory Services are dedicated to helping our clients to manage such risks.
